Jewelled casket presented by the Burmese to Ceylon, in Buddhist Temple, Kandy, 1899

210 x 271 mm. General view of the jewel encrusted casket, shaped in the form of a dagoba and intended to contain the tooth relic in the Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth) at Kandy. A clipping from an unidentified paper, stuck into the album, gives details of the precious stones and metals contained in the casket and canopy. Photographer unknown, probably W.L.H. Skeen & Co.

Slinn's photograph of the Railway Bridge across the Kalany is a fine picture characteristic of the rich foliage which lines the banks of the river and of the rafts which float on its bosom [in foreground], but unfortunately the effect is to convey the idea that the bridge runs...
