152 x 109 mm. General view of the exhibition buildings, with crowds of visitors on the lawn in the foreground. Opened by the Governor on September 13th, the exhibition comprised lectures, displays, demonstrations, and theatrical events, and closed with a dance at the Queen’s Hotel, Kandy on September 27th. The prints listed were chiefly from the files of the Photo Bureau, the majority being mounted on sheets of paper with substantial descriptions, and in many cases the negative attached. Chetty, 1870 - 1879
91 x 138 mm. Full length studio portrait of a man wearing a dhotie and turban, and carrying a white umbrella. He has various white marks daubed on the upper half of his torso. The chetties or cornecopolies were originally from the Coromandel Coast and were mainly employed as tax collectors. Photograph by Scowen & Co.

279 x 212 mm. Showing workers on ladders posed in the act of shaving the bark under the supervision of two Europeans. A worker in the foreground is tying grass around the trunk of a shaved tree. The photograph illustrates the way in which cinchona was often interplanted with coffee on an estate.
