Included with the prints are xeroxes of the original explanatory captions. The R.Y.S. 'St George' was owned by Ernest James Wythes (1868-1949); the compiler and/or photographer has not been identified.

View from below looking up towards the Deckande Bank, 60 miles from Colombo and the largest piece of earthwork on the line, containing 90,000 cubic yards of earth with a height of over 90 feet and a length of 180 yards. At the bottom of the picture a part of the masonry culvert which carries the Deckande stream beneath the line can be seen. On the embankment itself is an engine with freight wagons.
