The caption on the reverse reads: ' In spite of its date, the house manages to achieve dignity, proportion, and comeliness, aided by local architectural detail of chimneys, stepped roof, and welcoming arms steps.' There are two handwritten comments, in black ink, on the reverse: 'Sovay (?) No. 2' and 'No. 1 to overlap No. 2.' It is not known what this refers to, as there is no photograph numbered '2' in this collection.
