A series of photographs of the University of Ghana. The University College of the Gold Coast was established in 1948, and at first used part of the Achimota College site. Legion Hill, some three miles away, was selected for a permanent home; it was not however until 1960 that all teaching departments were accommodated there. Renamed University College of Ghana in 1957, it became the University of Ghana in 1961. Photographer unknown.

The fort dates back to 1642 when the Dutch built a lodge on the site; ten years later the lodge was enlarged and fortified and named Fort Creve Coer and after various periods of occupation and abandonment, was shattered by an earthquake in 1862. A view looking along the shoreline and beach towards the harbour jetty and the James Town area of Accra, with the point where the Korle Lagoon enters the sea visible beyond. In the right foreground is the small Anglican Cathedral of Holy Trinity with the High Street beyond it running parallel to the shore.

In the foreground a tennis court and what looks like a row of fives courts can be seen. This print would appear to date the panorama to before 1915, since the prominent GPO building (see Y30448B) completed in that year, is not visible beyond and to the right of the cathedral.
