190 x 144 mm. Showing the market square at Aliwal North with a bullock team and wagon in the foregrond. Founded in 1849, the town is situated on the Orange River and takes its name from the Battle of Aliwal, fought in India in January 1846 during the First Anglo-Sikh War.

An ostrich farm, 1899 - 1900
219 x 166 mm. Showing a troop of ostriches on C.D. Charlwood's farm at Graaff Reinet, with a figure seated in a ponycart in the foreground. By 1891 Graff Reinet was the sixth largest producer of ostrich feathers in the colony, although the trade has now completely disappeared from the area. The print is signed 'Roe W Phor.'
