The Great Pagoda, 1869
243 x 293 mm. Showing the monumental vimana or tower over the cella of the great temple. This huge pagoda, completed in the early 11th century, is one of the finest surviving examples of Dravidian temple architecture. Bourne no. 2047.

The Great Stone Bull, 1869
322 x 191 mm. View of the monumental statue of the bull Nandi in the temple courtyard at Tanjore. Carved from a single stab of granite and measuring 16 feet long by 12 feet high, the image is enclosed beneath a flat roof supported by pillars and stands between the gateway into the courtyard and the temple entrance itself. Bourne no. 2046.

The Happy Valley, Gwalior, 1860 - 1869
297 x 242 mm. Showing the massive stone figures carved from the rock face of the Urwahi Ravine of the W side of Gwalior ridge. These rock sculptures were made in the 15th century, mutilated on the orders of the Emperor Babar some sixty years later and subsequently repaired with coloured stucco by the Jains. Bourne no. 1328A.
