The Great Stone Bull, 1869
Scope and Contents
322 x 191 mm. View of the monumental statue of the bull Nandi in the temple courtyard at Tanjore. Carved from a single stab of granite and measuring 16 feet long by 12 feet high, the image is enclosed beneath a flat roof supported by pillars and stands between the gateway into the courtyard and the temple entrance itself. Bourne no. 2046.
