Domain Gates, Sydney, 1883 - 1885
190 x 140 mm. A view looking through the gates towards St. Mary's Cathedral, situated on the East Side of Hyde Park. The building seen here is still under construction; the north wall is complete, but there is as yet no roof or central tower. The first Roman Catholic Cathedral on the site was burned down in 1865. William Wardell designed the present building, which took over twenty years to complete. This photograph was probably taken around 1883-1885.
