207 x 157 mm. A view showing the base of this large tree, with two figures standing beside it. Presumably the tree is some kind of eucalypt, although the dimensions appear to be wildly exaggerated: ‘The Australian Encyclopaedia’ gives 375 feet as the highest certified tree found in Australia, and the other measurements would appear to be equally dubious.

The Bendigo District Hospital, 1875

178 x 125 mm. A view up the main drive towards the front entrance of the building from Lucan St, which consists of two wings connected by a central portion. The building was completed in 1859, and in 1891 ‘next to the Melbourne Hospital the institution accommodates a larger number of patients and gives a greater amount of outdoor relief than any hospital in the colony’.
