200 x 150 mm. A view down the wide street, with the Police Court on the left. With numerous passers-by and three crowded motor cars coming along the street towards the camera. The first petrol driven car to be imported into Queensland, a two-cylinder De Dion Bouton, arrived in 1900, and these cars seem to be attracting considerable attention, as novelties, from the pedestrians.

This collection provides a very substantial graphic record of Sydney in the 1870s but it is inadequately captioned; some details are written in pencil on the mounts, but as these have become very soiled, identification is sometimes difficult. Valuable assistance has been given by visiting photographic librarians from Australia.
