200 x 142 mm. A view looking along a street in Apia, with Samoans in the street or sitting by the roadside. At the left of the picture stands the ‘Club Hotel’, with the ‘Tivoli’ visible at the end of the street.
Apia, Samoa, from the sea, 1884 - 1885
196 x 139 mm. A view looking towards the shore from the harbour with the village stretching along the shoreline and jungle and hills beyond. Prominent on the shore is the stone church. Apia is situated on Upolu Island in Western Samoa and after Pango-Pango is the most important harbour in the Samoan Islands. See also Y309993A and Y309C.

200 x 124 mm. A view looking over a copra plantation, with a cross marked on the print in the middle of a clearing. Angel Hope Freeman was a senior Lieutenant on HMS ‘Tauranga’, which arrived in Samoa on the 24th March 1899. Freeman’s grave can be seen clearly in Y309C/53. Copyright registered 21 Aug. 1899.

A collection of lantern slides of Australia (plus one duplicate). 5-10 are marked 'Commonwealth of Australia' and have serial numbers. 12-22 are marked 'Department of Agriculture and Stock, Brisbane'. The slides' captions have been used as titles and have been recorded as found.

Araluen Valley, Goldfield, 1885
233 x 191 mm. A view of the valley from a hillside, showing the river flowing through with workings on its banks. Araluen goldfield was discovered in 1851 but the main alluvial rush was from 1868-72. With the introduction of dredging in 1899 Araluen became the State's main source of dredged gold.

Argyle Cut, Sydney, 1872 - 1895
285 x 230 mm. A view looking down Argyle Street and through the Cut, a passage cut through solid rock in the 1840s by convict labour. Made to give access from the Circular Quay to Millers Point and at the time of its construction was Sydney's Chinatown.
Argyle Street Underbridge, Moss Vale, 1887
346 x 242 mm. An interesting view of an iron girder bridge in the process of construction, with winches and wooden scaffolding in position and workmen on the bridge. Beneath the bridge, in the street outside Tattershall's Hotel, passers-by are watching the work in progress. Moss Vale lies on the Southern Line mid-way between Sydney and Goulburn, and was reached by the railway in 1867.
