271 x 207 mm. Duplicate of BAM 1/34. That print is captioned 'View from St James'. The view looks across a stretch of water towards a settlement of Malay houses raised on piles. It is unclear whether the view looks across the Strait of Johore towards Singapore Island or towards part of the Johore mainland - probably the latter.

In the background can be seen the domes and minarets of the Jamma Musjid or Cathedral Mosque. The building was commenced by Muhammad Ali Shah (Nawab of Oudh 1837-42) and completed by Begun Malka Jahan, a surviving member of the royal family. Duplicate at Y3022B/119. Bourne no. 1051.

Immediately opposite is a part of the offices of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation and next to this, largely obscured by a tree, the Medical Hall founded in 1882.
