Astana (Bukit Petri), Kuala Trengganu, 1920 - 1939

A view taken during an unidentified occasion at the Sultan of Trengganus palace, looking down onto the lawn in front of the building where a contingent of Malay soldiers and a military band is on parade. Groups of officials and other spectators are gathered at the edge of the lawn and in front of the palace itself.

99 x 75 mm. A view taken at the same occasion as the preceding print, but only showing a corner of the palace, with the military band in the foreground. The officials and servatns holding umbrellas near the entrance to the Astana are turned away from the camera, presumably waiting for the Sultan to emerge.

153 x 110 mm. Showing a paddle steamer approaching the landing stage at Kalewa. The Irrawaddy Flotilla Company made an expedition up the Chindwin in 1881 to assess the feasibility of extending its operations along this river. The result of this was the construction of the Kahbyoo which opened the first service between Pakokku and Kindat in 1882. The service was temporarily withdrawn during the troubles in Upper Burma of 1884 and 1885 but was subsequently resumed.
