Scope and Contents
153 x 110 mm. Showing a paddle steamer approaching the landing stage at Kalewa. The Irrawaddy Flotilla Company made an expedition up the Chindwin in 1881 to assess the feasibility of extending its operations along this river. The result of this was the construction of the Kahbyoo which opened the first service between Pakokku and Kindat in 1882. The service was temporarily withdrawn during the troubles in Upper Burma of 1884 and 1885 but was subsequently resumed.
