'Journal of a voyage from Britain to India on board the "Surat castle" Captn. David Isbitster bound for Bombay', 32 pages. The journal begins on 4 November 1797, and describes Mactier's journey via Madeira and the Cape to Bombay, where he arrived on 30 May 1798. The last entry is for 7 July 1798. Some sections of the text are in French, parts of which have been translated into English. The journal is accompanied by a one-page note about Mactier.

Copies of letters from John Goepel to his parents written during his time in Aden, April-November 1939, 38 pages. There are 11 photographs illustrating the text. On the inside cover are manuscript maps. The letters discuss Goepel's duties, which were complicated by rivalries between local rulers. They are preceded by an introduction dated 11 February 1984.
