A biographical note and three letters discussing Joseph Mitchell Meade (1889-1966), who worked in the Malayan Education Service, finishing his career as Superintendent of Schools, Kedah, and Superintendent of Schools, Johor (7 sheets).

'Journal of a voyage from Britain to India on board the "Surat castle" Captn. David Isbitster bound for Bombay', 32 pages. The journal begins on 4 November 1797, and describes Mactier's journey via Madeira and the Cape to Bombay, where he arrived on 30 May 1798. The last entry is for 7 July 1798. Some sections of the text are in French, parts of which have been translated into English. The journal is accompanied by a one-page note about Mactier.

A journal of a voyage on the 'Frances Anne' from Liverpool to Calcutta, 42 pages. Mackinnon probably kept the account to send to his mother: the last page closes with greetings to her.

On the inside cover are manuscript maps. The letters discuss Goepel's duties, which were complicated by rivalries between local rulers. They are preceded by an introduction dated 11 February 1984.
