View from below looking up towards the Deckande Bank, 60 miles from Colombo and the largest piece of earthwork on the line, containing 90,000 cubic yards of earth with a height of over 90 feet and a length of 180 yards. At the bottom of the picture a part of the masonry culvert which carries the Deckande stream beneath the line can be seen. On the embankment itself is an engine with freight wagons.
