Scope and Contents The chimney was one of the largest self supporting chimneys in East Africa at this time. It was built by what was originally known as the Natal Tanning Extract Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of a company of this name in Pietermaritzburg, Natal, South Africa, which in turn was a subsidiary of the Forestal Land Timber & Railways Co. Ltd. of London.
