201 x 155 mm. A view from a hillside overlooking the camp with men drawing water from wells in the foreground. Tambuk, five miles west of Otao, was occupied in advance of the railhead (which never reached Tambuk) by the Scots Guards and a company of the engineers, on 19 Apr. 1885. Little action was seen there.

Scope and Contents A 16mm, colour cinefilm, without sound. The writing on the film can reads: 'Tanganyika. Erosion scenes, building bridge, lake and fishing'. A note included with the cinefilm mentions the building of the railway bridge 'over R. Mukundokwa (nr. Kilosa), 1937?'0 - 4sec. Bridge.4 - 8sec. Cattle and goats being herded.8 - 11sec. People (accompanying the livestock?) carrying loads. 11 sec - 1min 11sec. Extensive erosion, and evidence of railway bridge-building activity....

Collection of loose photographs of various sizes, some with captions on the reverse. The photographs were given to H.P. Britten in c. 1960 by the Superintendent of the Photograph Division of the Government Public Relations Department. Although only one is stamped 'Official photograph' it is likely that they were all officially taken.

Frome created a series of sketchbooks of various formats during his travels. Numbers 1 (Canada) and 4-5 (Mauritius) were missing when the collection came to Cambridge. The RCS sold numbers 2-3 (Australia) to the Art Gallery of South Australia in 1970. Numbers 6-7 and 11 had never been presented to the society. The great majority of the contents of the seven sketchbooks listed below had been removed in London, leaving only a few rough pieces.
