"Somoto's Village, by the soft rays of a tropical setting sun, was a picture not soon to be forgotten. In the distance one could dimly discern the forms of dark human beings, walking about uneasily upon the tops of the huge rocks upon which the village is standing ... the small huts of mushroom shape were dotted...

The majority of these were taken in the north of the province; at Magoebaskoof (two visits); Tzaneen (including a sequence showing sisal growing and processing); Vendaland in the extreme north and a few coming south to Orhigstad and Graskop. A group taken at Mala Mala camp is assumed to be in the Transvaal, though the precise location has not been found. The section concludes with a visit to a fishing lodge at Dulstroom in December 1969.

Showing a group of Sotik men, women and children posing in a row for Gedge. His diary for that day records: 'The people of the villages near came in with food. The men danced a v. pretty dance and sang really musically. Some of the young women were naked, others had only an apology for an apron in the way of strings of beads and leather. Took a couple of photos'. Gedge also records that the plates were developed on October 4th. Duplicate of Y30468K/24.
