The branch was founded in 1918 when Lady Boyle gave Boyle House as headquarters. It closed in 1973. The archives contain rules, minutes, correspondence, receipts, visitors book and publications.

These notes cover Bell’s service as Administrator of Dominica and Acting Governor of the Leeward Islands (1899-1905), Commissioner (Governor) of Uganda (1906-1909), Governor of Northern Nigeria (1909-12), Governor of the Leeward Islands (1912-1916) and Governor of Mauritius (1916-24). Prominent subjects include Bell’s official duties, colleagues, travels, social life and personal affairs (circa 180 sheets).

These notes chronicle Bell’s retirement in Cannes, his interests, social life and personal affairs, and his frequent travels, including an extensive tour of the Far East during 1925-26 to examine French and Dutch methods of colonial government (circa 80 sheets).

This volume includes notes on Bell’s social life, interests, personal affairs, travel and press publications, including many on international and colonial affairs (circa 100 sheets).

Frome created a series of sketchbooks of various formats during his travels. Numbers 1 (Canada) and 4-5 (Mauritius) were missing when the collection came to Cambridge. The RCS sold numbers 2-3 (Australia) to the Art Gallery of South Australia in 1970. Numbers 6-7 and 11 had never been presented to the society. The great majority of the contents of the seven sketchbooks listed below had been removed in London, leaving only a few rough pieces.
