The First World War, 1914 - 1918
Scope and Contents
This is a series of photographs documenting the fighting on the Western Front and the appalling conditions endured by soldiers during trench warfare. The majority record the contribution of the Canadian Army, while later images illustrate commemoration celebrations in Belgium in 1922. Most are uncaptioned, making dates, places, units and individuals difficult to identify. Brief descriptive captions have been supplied in parenthesis.
