Scope and Contents
On 2 October they arrived at Middleberg, and Bayly notes that they anchored the next day at Amsterdam where they remained until 7 October. He describes buying fruit, hogs and fowl there, and notes their difficulty in finding a good harbour and fresh water [RGO 14/56: 87v]. The entry for 4 October includes his observations taken while ashore. On 10 October they sighted 'the Island of Pillsteet'. Entries include many observations of lunar distance, with sightings of albatrosses and porpoises....
