Scope and Contents On 2 October they arrived at Middleberg, and Bayly notes that they anchored the next day at Amsterdam where they remained until 7 October. He describes buying fruit, hogs and fowl there, and notes their difficulty in finding a good harbour and fresh water [RGO 14/56: 87v]. The entry for 4 October includes his observations taken while ashore. On 10 October they sighted 'the Island of Pillsteet'. Entries include many observations of lunar distance, with sightings of albatrosses and porpoises....

The entry for 3 July describes Turtle Island and records that boats were sent out to try to strike at the turtles, with no success [RGO 14/58: 112v]. The New Hebrides were sighted on 16 July.
