Sir James Chadwick, 1945 - 1949
Scope and Contents
Correspondence between Rotblat and Chadwick with related papers. A large part relates to the running of the laboratory at Liverpool after Rotblat's return from Los Alamos (December 1944); Chadwick remained in the USA as Head of the British Mission attached to Los Alamos and most of his letters 1945-1947 are written from the USA. The plans for re-building at Liverpool, work on the cyclotron, staffing, grants etc. are covered, along with wider issues such as the Nuclear Physics Sub-Committee and nuclear research at other laboratories, the future of Poland, Rotblat's family members and his application for British citizenship.
Included are typescript and manuscript memoranda, reports and notes by Rotblat and others; correspondence between Rotblat and Lady Chadwick, with a few letters to him from her daughters; a small quantity of correspondence with others, e.g. N. Feather. Letters by Rotblat are either carbon copies or manuscript drafts.
