Scope and Contents

Letters sent while Clementine was aboard the steam yacht the Rosaura with 1st Lord Moyne [earlier Walter Guinness] and his party, on a cruise to the Dutch East Indies [later Indonesia]. Subjects include: landing in Madras [India] and Rangoon [Burma, later Myanmar]; impressions of Sumatra and Malacca [Melaka]; Churchill's landscaping work at Chartwell [Kent]; Singapore, particularly the new naval dockyard; the divorce of Diana Bailey [earlier Diana Churchill, later Diana Sandys]; visiting the Sultan of Sambas; Randolph Churchill's decision to stand in the Wavertree by-election [Liverpool]; Papua New Guinea and the east coast of Australia; visiting New Zealand; disappointment about the plan for Churchill to write a film script [on the life of King George V] for Alexander Korda; the Solomon Islands; hunting for Komodo Dragons; Randolph's selfishness towards Churchill over the Norwood by-election [London]; the relationship between Sarah Churchill [later Sarah Oliver, Sarah Beauchamp and Sarah, Lady Audley] and Vic Oliver; Sarah's dancing [in Charles B. Cochran's theatrical revue "Follow the Sun"].

Includes a typed copy of Clementine's letters from the Rosaura, written up as a travel diary (file 3).
