Printed copies of letters from 2nd Lord Linlithgow [earlier Lord Hopetoun] to LSA on subjects including: the future of Burma [later Myanmar]; negotiations with Mahomed Jinnah [Leader of the Muslim League], Mohandas Gandhi and the Indian Congress, particularly Gandhi's fast; the reconstitution of Linlithgow's Council; General Sir Claude Auchinleck's return as Commander-in-Chief, India and 1st Lord Wavell's appointment as the next Viceroy; the deteriorating situation in Bengal [parts of Bangladesh and India]; filling emergency vacancies; a trade dispute with South Africa; the food shortage.
