Correspondence, 1892 - 1964
Scope and Contents
This is a wide-ranging series, covering the whole of LSA's career from his time at university until his death. Retaining LSA's own arrangement, the series has been split into sections including: a run of correspondence year files, starting at the end of the First World War; collected files of so-called "special" correspondence with particular individuals; correspondence which LSA had used as source material for his memoirs (presumably drawn from the year files and special correspondence files); LSA's correspondence with the Viceroy of India and the governors of Bombay, Bengal [parts of Bangladesh and India] and Burma [later Myanmar], during his tenure of the India Office; LSA's personal correspondence as Secretary of State for the Colonies; his correspondence with friends and colleagues in the years leading up to the First World War; correspondence with and on the numerous people who asked for LSA's help in finding various positions, mainly during and after the Second World War.
