Miscellaneous correspondence, 1904 - 1955
Scope and Contents
The letters in this series do not fit into either LSA's year files or his "special correspondence" files. In most cases (and possibly all), they have been used as source material for his memoirs, "My Political Life", as can be seen by the notes and reminiscences from LSA's former colleagues that are scattered amongst them. About half the series consists of LSA's private correspondence with the Viceroy of India and the governors of Bombay, Bengal [parts of Bangladesh and India] and Burma [later Myanmar] during the Second World War: these files were clearly kept separate from LSA's official papers as Secretary of State for India.
