This volume contains minutes of meetings of the Congregational Board of Education between 19 January 1883 and 10 April 1889, corresponding with the time period before and after the College's move to Cambridge. Recorded details include "whether the Board would be allowed reserve of right to reveal to the [?] organization or to deal with men and women as separate Colleges if they should decide to try the experiment of organizing Cavendish as a College for one sex." (pp. 445 - 446); plans to "add to the library and form a museum of educational appliance" (p.437); Horobin being recommended for principalship by Liddell (p. 212); Horobin's appointment and Liddell's annuity (p. 222); a request from the Egyptian government supported by the Education Department and the Foreign Office "to receive three Arab students for training as teachers in Arab schools" (p. 260); a student application from Mr. Saddharn Karoda from Japan (p. 294); "further negotiations for moving the College" with nothing further decided (p. 333); consideration for "the application of Mr. Gompertz, a jew, to enter the College...they recommend the Board accept him on the condition that he obeyed all the rules of the College" (p.352).
Several documents are adhered to pages within this volume including a copy of Deed of Trust from 10 February 1854, newspaper clippings of "Homerton College re: special general meeting Mar 27th 1893" signed John C. Horobin, correspondence to Horobin regarding transference to Cavendish College from unknown sender from Vermont College, Clapton, correspondence to Horobin from the Education Department and a "Memorandum of Mixed Organization".
