The document is divided between two lever arch files and has been heavily corrected in Joseph Needham's hand. The first file is labelled 'to end Scept' and the second, 'Bdhm to end'. Page numbering continues from the typed manuscript of Volume 1 (catalogued as SCC1/3/2/1), showing that the material was originally prepared for a single volume. Pages 336, 337 and 338 were extracted from the file as part of the 'Specimen - Batch of Proofs and Author's Copy' catalogued as SCC1/3/5/4.
