The bank notes and coins were placed by Joseph Needham in envelopes and these have been retained. Most of the coins have dates but most bank notes do not, so the covering dates in the description may not be accurate. The dates given are generally the dates of the coins but if the bank notes are undated the date given is the one written on the envelope.
