Japanese writing set from Odagiri Mizuho 小田切, 1974
Scope and Contents
The writing set is held in its original box. The lid of the box is inscribed by the donor, and Joseph Needham has written in pencil ‘from Odagiri Mizuho, 16 Nov 74’. It contains a round resin box in imitation of Yamanaka lacquerware, with an image of Shitupo ware (red flowers and green leaves) on the lid. The box contains 1 writing brush decorated with Japanese characters (in two parts to fit within the box), 1 ink dish, 1 ink stick decorated with Japanese characters in gold, 1 blue ceramic water dropper, and two information leaflets. The writing set was made by the Tokyo Kyukyodo Co. Ltd. 東京鳩居堂.
