Li Yuese is Joseph Needham’s Chinese name, one that he used throughout his life, and by which he is best known in China. Another early seal for which the precise date of acquisition is unknown, though most likely between 1943 and 1946 while Joseph Needham was in China. It is one of a pair, the other bearing the Chinese name for Dorothy Needham, Li Dafei 李大斐. It is used on many early books and other materials, such as the edition of 天工開物 from 傅斯年, and journal issues such as 科學與技術, Vol. 1, no.4 [from Inhib. Factors 中Box 1], acquired “Beipei May 1945”.
