The document is divided between two lever arch files and has been heavily corrected in Joseph Needham's hand. The first file is labelled 'Maths'' and the second, 'Astron. Met. Geogr. Geol. etc.'. Page numbering continues from the typed manuscript of Volume 2 (catalogued as SCC1/3/5/3), showing that the material for the first three published volumes was originally prepared for a single volume.
