This file is entitled ‘HK Hon Degree Apr 74 Misc + Hs-Y’ and it relates to the Doctor of Letters honorary degree granted to Joseph Needham by the University of Hong Kong on 29 Apr. 1974.
Joseph Needham flew to Hong Kong on 21 Apr. and returned on 10 May.
He travelled to Macao with Hsio-Yen Shih [Shi Hsüeh-Yen / Shih Shio-yen]. Hsio-yen Shih (1933 - 2001) was a Chinese-born Canadian art historian and curator of the Far East Section of the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, Canada. During this period she was a Visiting Professor of Chinese Art and Archaeology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
