 Item
Reference Code: GBR/1928/NRI/NRI2/8/4/6/2/18

Scope and Contents

The poster is in three main sections with multiple frames in each. The left hand section introduces three main types of mosquito (which they note “as the most common among the disease infected insects spread by the American imperialists in Korea and Manchuria”), their life cycle, the diseases they spread, and how they transmit these diseases. The central section is headed “If you want to prevent disease, first exterminate mosquitoes 要防病,先滅蚊”. The central and right hand section then introduce how to prevent the spread of mosquitoes and how to kill and repel them. This includes spraying with DDT, throwing bags full of wood chips soaked in oil into ponds, and “planting abundant quantities of chuchongju 除蟲菊” (Tanacetum cinerariifolium, a natural source of the insecticide pyrethrum).

Left hand slogan reads: Thoroughly defeat American imperialist bacteriological warfare 徹底打敗美帝國主義的細菌戰.

Right hand slogan reads: Everyone participate in the Patriotic Epidemic Prevention Health Campaign 人人都來參加愛國防疫衛生運動.
