Scope and Contents
Album of photographs, between four to eight to a page, most measuring approximately 105 x 75 mm. and many with detailed captions. There are also four sleeves of loose photographs, captioned on the reverse Showing scenic views of holiday excursions plus various military scenes including the R.M. Academy, Woolwich No.1 Company: digging gun emplacement, at drill, charging at end of skirmish, at Salisbury Camp, and manipulating half a tonne safe with sleepers, and also a large section depicting the 92nd Battery RFA in Middleburg and south Africa: their quarters in Middleburg; a cricket match; Kings birthday review in Middleburg Nov 1907; dawn on the Kaffir River; gunners helping an ambulance over Rhenoster drift; tombs on route of Roberts march to Pretoria, 20 miles north of Kroonstad; a typical view of the veldt; soldiers lunching; camp; crowd on quay Durban from the RMS Saxon 1908; 92nd Battery RFA hockey cup team; Lieutenant AAK White; and Captain Sheppard DSO.
There are numerous pictures of A.A.H. Taylor 92nd Battery RFA, including an archway leading to his house with his servant in 1905 (in Woolwich?), ice-skating in Switzerland, in Lea Hurst Garden, ‘on the kings birthday, in drill (G.O.C.’s inspection) 12 Dec 1907 and images of him in uniform in South Africa.
Other people identified in the photographs are: B.T. ?Rogers-Tillstoue in study at ?Moulse Coombe; W.A.G.T. lunching in Inn on top of Bernina Pass, Switzerland, 9 Jan 1909; Mrs Drabble; Young Fairclough and Doris Wilson on (ice) rink, Belvedere Hotel.
