Regulations for Canton Commissioners, 1858
Scope and Contents
'Regulations to be observed by the Commissioners placed in charge of the City of Canton by the Allied Commanders in Chief ', dated 'Head Quarters' (Canton?), 7 January 1858. The commissioners may have been Parkes and Henri des Chesnez. The Allied Commanders were Sir Michael Seymour, Charles Rigault de Genouilly and Sir Charles Van Straubenzee. The sheet also contains 'Further Instructions for the Commissioners', undated. The document is signed by the Commanders-in-Chief, and includes notes in Parkes' hand.
