Scope and Contents

Copies of property correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, and Jardine Matheson, Foochow, Hankow and Tientsin, with enclosed letters and papers. Some letters have been transferred to other files, but there are sheets listing their contents.

FOOCHOW

1. Letters nos P.1-2 from A.M. d'Oliveira, Foochow, to the Property Department, Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, 25 August 1952 and 10 October 1952.

2. Letters nos P.4, P.6 and P.9 from Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, to Jardine Matheson, Foochow, 2 February 1952, 3 September 1952 and 16 October 1952. No. P.4 is addressed to A.M. d'Oliveira, Foochow. Nos P.5, 7 and 8 have been transferred to other files, but there are sheets listing their contents.

The subjects covered include damage to the boundary wall and property correspondence.

HANKOW

1. Letters nos HP-14, 17, 18, 24-29, 31-34, 38-41, 43-50, 52-55, 61, 69-71, 75 and 79 from W.J. Wu, Hankow, to the Property Department, Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, 4 March-24 September 1952. Nos HP-1-13, 15, 16, 19-23, 30, 35-37, 42, 51, 56-60, 62-68, 72-74, 76-78 and 80-98 have been transferred to other files, but there are sheets listing their contents. There is also a sheet listing semi-official letter no. H-21 of 6 June 1952, which includes a pencil note that this letter should have been given a property number.

2. Letters nos P.57, 63-66, 74, 76-83, 87, 96 and 98 from Shanghai to Hankow, 2 February-22 September 1952. Most of the letters are signed Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, but there are also letters from H.T. England and R. Gordon; the main recipient is Jardine Matheson, Hankow, but there are also letters addressed to W.J. Wu and the Property Department. Nos P.52-56, 58-62, 67-73, 75, 84-86, 88-95, 97 and 99-108 have been transferred to other files, but there are sheets listing their contents. There is also a sheet listing letter no. 66, which is present in the file.

The subjects covered include Godowns A.B.C.D.; Godowns H.I.J.K. leased by the Ming Sung Industrial Co. Ltd; house property tax; Jardine Estate; Kiukiang properties; loan of 160 Shih Fong Land; Lots 39 and 57, ex S.A.D. No. 3; Mackenzie's property, Ichang; registration of godowns; and Henry Whistler's estate.

TIENTSIN

1. Letters nos. P.1-2 from Alex Kidd, Tientsin, to R. Gordon, Shanghai, 4 January 1952 and 9 February 1952, and P.4 from Kidd, Tientsin, to the Property Department, Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, 18 June 1952. Nos P.3 and P.5 have been transferred to other files, but there are sheets listing their contents.

2. Letters nos P.16, 17 and 21-23 from Jardine Matheson, Shanghai (including some letters from R. Gordon), to Jardine Matheson, Tientsin (including some letters addressed to Alex Kidd), 7 January-9 June 1952. Nos P.18-20 and 24-26 have been transferred to other files, but there are sheets listing their contents.

The subjects covered include property correspondence; Tientsin properties - Shipping Godowns Nos. A1, A2 and A3, Lot 15 (Old Lot No. 17); and Tongku Property - Lot No. 5.
