Scope and Contents

A small set of miscellaneous papers regarding Shanghai silk compiled by B.D.F. Beith during 1949-1950:

1. An extract from the 'British Chamber of Commerce Journal', Shanghai, March 1920, pp. 97-99, entitled 'British Enterprises in Shanghai VIII. Ewo Silk Filature'.

2. A memorandum on the Silk Department of Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd by Rene Plattner, 2 June 1950, with a covering letter from W.J. Keswick, Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, to B.D.F. Beith, London, 20 June 1950.

3. A table of Jardine, Matheson & Co.'s silk shipments from Shanghai from the season 1886/1887 to 1947/1948.

4. A certificate for condition weight and a certificate for a classification test of the China Silk Corporation for five bales of White Steam Filature, 24 October 1949.

The folder is labelled 'No 9' and 'Shai Silk'.
