Scope and Contents

Correspondence of B.D.F. Beith, D.G.M. Bernard, J.F. Owen, J.J. Paterson and A.B. Stewart of Matheson & Co. Ltd with J.H. Keswick, W.J. Keswick and David Keswick; correspondence of Matheson & Co. Ltd with other correspondents; and correspondence of J.H. Keswick and W.J. Keswick with other correspondents regarding various personal and business matters concerning the Keswicks. There are also some related papers, including an undated statement of the particulars of Alliance Assurance Policy No. 6729941 of the Trustees of the late Major Henry Keswick of 17 July 1919; a memorandum on the Asiatic Trading Corporation Ltd, London, 15 October 1935, including particulars of Hankow properties belonging to the Asiatic Trading Corporation Ltd; a printed brochure on China by Shaw, Loebl & Co., London, June 1937, including sections on the Kuomintang, the National Government, financial reforms and economic reconstruction; and an itemised 'Measurement of several works requiring to be done to reinstate damage by fire at Cowhill Tower, belonging to the Trustees of the late Major Henry Keswick' by M. Purdon-Smith, architect and surveyor, Dumfries, 20 August 1942 (loose inside the file). The ring-binder is labelled 'Correspondence to and from W.J. Keswick, J.H. Keswick and David Keswick'.
