Scope and Contents
Copies of correspondence and related papers regarding the Wilkinson Memorial Scholarship established by the Indo-China Steam Navigation Co. Ltd to fund a scholar to the Mercantile Marine Service Association's H.M.S. 'Conway' Merchant Navy Cadet School. The file contains correspondence between Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, and Erica Edwards, Harpenden, Herts, E. Goodbody, Church Stretton and Nottingham, H.M.S. 'Conway' Merchant Navy Cadet School, Liverpool, Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Linklaters & Paines, London. Most of the material is concerned with two recipients of the award - Cadet R.H. Edwards, who was expelled from the school for cribbing during an examination, and Michael Edwards.
The file includes much correspondence between Matheson & Co. Ltd and E. Goodbody regarding the Edwards Minors Trust in favour of Michael Edwards, including the following accounts of the Trust provided to the firm by Goodbody: a booklet of the income and expenditure account for the period 9 May 1958-5 April 1959, the balance sheets as at 9 May 1958 and 5 April 1959, and a copy of manuscript balance sheets and accounts for the year ended 5 April 1963.
