Scope and Contents
Copies of correspondence and related papers regarding the London and Birmingham Chambers of Commerce Trade Mission to Japan of 11 April-1 May 1962, comprised of correspondence between Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Jardine Matheson, Tokyo; correspondence between Matheson & Co. Ltd and other correspondents, including the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, Birmingham, City Hotels Ltd, Hong Kong, Convoys Universal Travel Service, London, and the London Chamber of Commerce Inc., London; and related letters and papers, including the following documents:
1. Programmes and lists of members of the Trade Mission.
2. A brief and a revised brief for the Trade Mission.
3. Circulars from the London Chamber of Commerce Inc. about the Trade Mission.
4. A folder (loose inside the file) containing an annotated first draft of the report of the Trade Mission, 72 pages, with a title page.
5. A volume entitled 'Opportunity in Japan. A survey for Businessmen', comprising the final report of the Trade Mission.
The file also contains some papers regarding the Iron and Steel Institute delegation to Japan, 17 March-4 April 1963, and a visit of the London and Birmingham Chambers of Commerce to Hong Kong and Japan, October-November 1963. This material includes a list of members and programme of the Iron and Steel Institute delegation and a guide map to Hong Kong produced by the Mandarin Hotel.
The ring-binder is labelled 'Japan - British Trade Mission to Japan File I'.
