Scope and Contents

Copies of correspondence (including telegrams) and other papers regarding a contract for Joseph L Thompson & Sons Ltd to build a 7,000 ton D.W. cargo liner (motor vessel), known as Ship No. 706, for the Indo-China Steam Navigation Co. Ltd. The file contains correspondence between Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, and Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, W. McArthur Morison & Co., Glasgow, Richards, Butler & Co., London, Joseph L. Thompson & Sons Ltd, shipbuilders and repairers, Sunderland, and others, and related papers, including a general arrangement plan of the vessel by Joseph L. Thompson & Sons Ltd, 9 March 1960; a pro-forma of the contract between the two companies, with amendments; and two copies of the final agreement to build the ship, 3 August 1960 (one copy loose inside the file). The ring-binder is labelled 'I.C.S.N. Co. Ltd. - New Tonnage. J.L. Thompson & Sons. Contract.'
