Scope and Contents

Copies and extracts of correspondence between Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, regarding Chabrières, Morel et Cie, including material regarding Morel-Journel et Cie. The correspondents include B.D.F. Beith, London and Shanghai, D.G.M. Bernard, London, J.H. Keswick, Shanghai, W.J. Keswick, Shanghai, J.J. Paterson, Hong Kong, and F.A. Pollock, Shanghai. There are also related letters, including correspondence between D.G.M. Bernard, L.N. Leefe and A.B. Stewart, Matheson & Co. Ltd, and Henry Morel-Journel, Morel-Journel et Cie, Lyon, and J. Rondot, Chabrières et Cie, Marseilles. Most of these letters are copies, but there are also a few original letters from Morel-Journel et Cie to the firm.

The file also contains many related papers, including a set of tables regarding sales of silk, including a table of annual sales in Shanghai, Canton and Yokohama for the years 1922-1929, and a printed sheet by Morel-Journel et Cie, Lyon, of tables of silk prices, supplies, deliveries, imports into the U.S.A., and cocoons at Marseilles for the years 1916-1930, dated 31 December 1930.

The folder includes two documents in French. The file is labelled on the front cover 'London/Hongkong/Shanghai Produce Firms Chabrieres Morel & Cie'.
