Eveleigh Running Sheds, 1872 - 1895
Scope and Contents
345 x 262 mm. A view of the Eveleigh locomotive building works, with an engine outside on the point of entering one of the bays. With the extension of lines it was found that the Sydney terminal could not cope with both maintaining the locomotives and running services. The need for a new building was felt as early as 1875, and shortly afterwards John Whitton presented plans for the new running-sheds, which were built on a 62 acre site purchased by the Government at Redfern.
