Petersham station, platform from footbridge, 1887

 Item
Reference Code: GBR/0115/RCS/Y3086E/17

Scope and Contents

345 x 262 mm. A view looking down from the footbridge, showing both platforms, with the Sydney suburbs visible beyond the station: 'Petersham Station is now the centre of thickly populated suburban district, and on the slopes around it are many really delightful villas and gardens. Usual time of trajet from Sydney to Petersham, about twelve minutes.' (NSW Registrar-General's Office 1886, p.23).

This photograph is particularly interesting for the variety of passengers seen on the platform and gives a clear picture of fashions in the late 1880's.
