Scope and Contents
84 x 108 mm. (oval print). A head and shoulders portrait of Lieutenant Colonel George Fredrick Gildea (1831-98), Commander of the Pretoria Garrison. Gildea joined the 69th Foot in 1848 and served as adjutant to the Turkish contingent in the Crimean Campaign 1855-6. He was the Quarter-Master General at Aldershot from 1876-80 and later served in the Sudan Campaign of 1885.
