Cotton-picking - Yaramis - Abyan, 1965 - 1966
Scope and Contents
An album containing scenes in the Federation, probably by official photographers. Most of the prints measure 210 mm x 160 mm, though a few are slightly smaller, and all are excellent photographs.
Between 1959 and 1965 sixteen states and the British Colony of Aden joined to form the Federation of South Arabia. In 1965 Sir Ralph Hone and Sir Gawain Bell were appointed to make recommendations for a constitution for the Federation. They reported early in 1966, but the constitution never came into effect owing to the worsening situation in the area, culminating in the British withdrawal from Aden in 1967 and the creation of what is now the Peoples' Democratic Republic of Yemen.
