Baca woman [and child], 1930 - 1950
Scope and Contents
102 x 152 mm. The caption continues: 'an off-shoot of the Zulus. They live in the Richmond area, Natal. They are very fond of bright colours, and are very much decorated with beads and bright wools. The hair is treated (stretched and twisted with threads covered with fat and red ochre). They are rather looked down upon by the pure Zulus.' Although uncredited, this photograph may have been taken by Barbara Tyrrell. The same woman features in images taken by Tyrrell in an album held by the Killie Campbell Africana Library under the reference: Album D07/001-231 Zulu Customs Book 1 29500 [309425] (d07-108 and d-07-096).
